Unwired Dance Theatre, led by founder Clemence Debaig, creates immersive, playable experiences across virtual, remote, and real-world spaces. Blending choreography with cutting-edge tech - from wearables to XR - the company explores empathy, connection, and embodiment. With meaningful participation at its core, Unwired invites audiences into thought-provoking worlds where dance and technology work together in the most unexpected ways.

Unwired Dance Theatre is based both in London (UK) and Bordeaux (France), with collaborators all around the world.

Clemence Debaig

Unwired Dance Theatre is directed by Clemence Debaig who is a dance artist, XR designer and creative technologist. Her work explores notions of control, empathy and intimacy, questioning how technologically mediated interactions influence human behaviours. She also runs Unwired Studio, a digital company helping other artists and organisations realise their creative vision with technology.

She often works with telepresence, networked wearables, Mocap technology and VR. With a background as a dancer and creative technologist - and a previous career as a UX designer - she brings a unique perspective to choreographing interactive and participatory experiences. In the past years, her work has been presented at various venues and events, including Maison de la Danse in Lyon, Camden Fringe, Ugly Duck, Kallida Festival, Oxo Tower and Open Online Theatre.

Clemence is also a lecturer at Goldsmiths University, teaching modules on motion capture techniques, digital embodiment, immersive theatre and escape room design. Since the beginning of 2020, she has been part of the research project Mocap Streamer which aims to explore how motion capture technology can enable virtual collaboration between dancers in remote locations. The project involved partnerships with Mavin Khoo (Akram Khan Dance Company) and Alexander Whitley Dance Company.
